Italian Senate Blocks Investigation against Interior Minister on Migrants Case

Italian Senate committee has blocked the kidnapping investigation against Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, Reuters informs.

16 members of the committee voted to stop the investigation against Salvini, 6 supported its continuation.

The movement’s senators on the Elections and Immunity Committee stated that they were going to respect the voting.

Salvini said that he had asked for parliamentary immunity because his decision to block migrants was made to the country’s interests and was approved by his allies. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and 5-Star movement have supported this position.

The committee’s decision precedes the voting of the upper house, which will take place by the end of March.
