UN Resident Coordinator is to Appear in Ukraine
The new system of ambassadors is introduced in the UN in 2019. From now on, resident coordinators will be directly subordinated to the United Nations Secretary-General and will be considered the highest representatives of the system in the offices of member countries, Dzerkalo Tyzhdnia writes.
The mandate of resident coordinators will include not only the implementation of development programmes, but also the improvement of the general coordination between all agencies in the UN system, and, perhaps, the most important thing – the support of governments in crisis overcoming (humanitarian, security, political, man-caused ones), the press release informs.
From now on, this UN resident coordinator will work in Ukraine as well, Volodymyr Yelchenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations noted.
The diplomat considers that large powers of resident coordinators will help the Secretary-General to know more about local situations with the purpose of prompt response.
