UK Sends Royal Navy to English Channel Due to Migrant Flow
A Royal Navy patrol ship was sent to the English Channel in order to prevent the arrival of illegal migrants, BBC writes with reference to the British Ministry of Defence.
Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said that the patrol ship HMS Mersey would “help prevent migrants from making the dangerous journey.”
Border guard forces of the UK and French authorities are already patrolling the waters. Now, after the request from the Home Office, the navy was directed there.
Nearly 240 persons arrived in the UK illegally by small boats starting from November.
Mr. Williamson said that HMS Mersey was sent to the Strait of Dover.
